Our IDD Therapy Disc Clinic offers specialist treatment for spinal discs and sciatica.
Most back and neck pain issues can be resolved with hands on treatments and rehabilitation, but when patients have more difficult spinal conditions, we offer IDD Therapy Disc Treatment.
This therapy is specifically targeted at patients with large herniated disc issues or a small disc bulges which cause sciatica and aims to resolve these without resorting to pain management, injections or surgery.
What is IDD Therapy?
Intervertebral Disc Decompression (IDD) Therapy was developed in USA in the late 90s as a targeted treatment to relieve pressure on specific spinal discs and gently restore mobility. It is used to treat low back pain, neck pain and sciatica/nerve pain.
An everyday term for a common type of disc injury is a ‘slipped disc’ – more technically a herniated or prolapsed disc. Disc problems affect people of all ages and from all walks of life. Their problems might be caused by injury, heavy lifting or from long hours sitting at a desk. Spinal discs can become compressed to the point where function and mobility and impaired.
At Osteopath West we use an IDD Therapy machine (Accu SPINA) which is computer-controlled, safe and perfectly comfortable. Our comprehensive and progressive treatment programme is designed to reduce your pain and achieve long term healing by allowing the body’s natural mechanisms to operate more efficiently by:
- Releasing the pressure on discs and trapped nerves
- Relaxing muscle spasm- a major source of back pain
- Creates an environment for improved disc health
- Taking the strain off spinal structures
- Relieving pressure on nerves
- Improving spinal mobility.

Why choose IDD Therapy?
As clinicians, we can treat most back and neck pain with manual therapies, but for some conditions – particularly those which are disc-related – patients need something more to help their condition improve. IDD Therapy addresses the failings of traditional traction to treat targeted spinal segment in a precise, safe and comfortable manner. We can help you if:
- Your current treatment is not working
- You want to stop taking painkillers
- You are seeking long-term pain relief
- You want to avoid surgery or invasive treatment
- You want to return to normal daily activities.
IDD Therapy gives osteopaths a tool to help those patients who need something more than hands on treatment. Combined with manual therapy and appropriate rehabilitation, IDD Therapy is helping patients who may have given up hope of ever finding relief for their pain.
Of course, there is no such thing as a miracle cure for back pain and no treatment can guarantee 100% success. However, IDD Therapy provides a clear treatment path for patients with unresolved back and neck pain.
